Heron, a PGA Tour facility was recently chosen as one of Golf Magazine's
"Top 10 Places to play". It has gently rolling terrain bordered
by a network of lakes and wetlands, over 100 bunkers, 83 different tee
positions, and elevated, undulating greens.
The course architect Mark McCumber said "The tallest thing out here
when we started [the design] was a 3-foot high weed. There was nothing
vertical. We had a clean palette. Everything had to be created."
It was among the first in Florida to be certified as an Audubon Cooperative
Sanctuary course.
